The wealth of nation depends on the health of its citizens. Yet, in the modern knowledge based economies of the world, education is more and more seen as the main force in the development of all countries. Discuss

Over the last decade, the wealth of many countries has significantly increased the world over. While some believe that this welfare of a country depends on the peoples’ health, others think that it is based on the education. This essay is an attempt to analyse both sides without any prejudice.
On the one hand, healthy living of people is considered to be the real wealth of the society because it correlates to the economy. The reason is if the citizens are strong and not prone to any diseases then the governments are not necessarily to spend a huge sum on improving medical facilities. For instance, Australia, at present, has invested almost 10% of their income for curing breast cancer, obesity and diabetes, instead of developing infrastructure. Now, it is clear why people have this view: “Health is wealth”.
On the other hand, education is an important resource which has inextricable links to the country’s well-being. Individuals with a good qualification are able to prosper their life by creating employment opportunities that in turn gives a healthy progress in their community. If you take, India, for example, many IT companies secured job contracts with a number of foreign industries than any other country due to fact that it has extensive knowledge in the IT sector. Hence, people argue that education produces positive income to the government.
At the end of the day, both camps have strong arguments. It is believed that health awareness and literacy rate are equally important for any nation to develop their economy. Let us hope that all countries would concentrate on both of these.
