Academic Task 2 essay doubt

How to respond to questions that ask "To what extent do you agree?". Am I supposed to write my argument essay agreeing to the argument? Can't I refute the argument in my esaay?

Dear Nagasai
IELTS uses different ways of asking for the same type of response and wants your position whatever it is.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
How far do you agree with ... ?
If you disagree, you can say that you don't agree at all, because ...
If you agree to some extent, you can say that while you agree that ... you disagree that ..., because ...
If you entirely agree, you can say that, too, and explain why.
IELTS don’t expect you to either agree or disagree or give a balanced view: you may answer as you like, but you must say what your position is and support it with good ideas and examples.
