Q. Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
What other measures do you think might be effective?

Ans.
Petrol, a refined form of crude oil is increasingly used throughout the world as a source of instant energy to fuel vehicles. It is reflecting as a leading cause of traffic and pollution on the streets today. The idea of controlling this through hiking up the oil prices is supported as well as refuted by many. Both point of views will be discussed in this order.

It is believed by masses that controlling oil prices eventually controls traffic and pollution. Such as, increase in oil price encourages people to commute through public transport as well as make them think twice before using vehicles for shorter distances to save that extra penny. This, acts as a double sided sword, which reduces emission at the same time promotes healthy lifestyle. Thus, it is understandable why many people support this idea of increasing oil prices.

On the other hand, many argue that rise in fuel prices is not the only solution to curb street congestion and pollution. For example, incredible use of public transport by making it more affordable and assessable to everybody has proved its impact on controlling traffic and pollution. It is apparent that proper utilization of infrastructure available to us is key to solve the issues caused by road blocks and pollution.

For many reasons, idea of controlling traffic and pollution by hiking petrol (oil) prices is supported and refuted by many. However, after analyzing these points of view, it is clear that increase in oil prices is not the best way to solve these issues than promoting public transport. In the near future, population control and use of efficient, long range electric vehicles replacing conventional fuel based vehicles sounds promising as a solution to rising traffic and pollution.
