When the government imposes exorbitant taxes on petrol, this is an unnecessary burden to common people, but a futuristic way to strengthen the GDP of the country. So increasing the petrol price is absolutely not acceptable, whereas there are plenty of other measures that can be implemented to curb pollution and traffic in civic centres.

To be elaborated most of the traffic congestion happened due to the dearth of wide and excellent roads or advanced traffic signals.(<--Reword to: "A common cause of traffic congestion is the lack of wide and well-maintained roads and traffic signals.") So it is an essential duty of the government to make sure that new expressways and pedestrian paths are established. Similarly, structures like flyovers, sky walkers and underpass roads wouldalso ease congestion and its related environmental problems. Moreover, conducting awareness campaigns which would encourage people to utilise public transport such as buses and trains would definitely help to combat this issue. In addition, car pooling is an innovative concept becoming more prevalent in almost all cities world wide, which has people sharing cars instead of driving alone. Not only that, using a bicycle or motorcycle to travel short distances are also an option. Similarly, the government should define punitive action against rule violators and banning outdated and old vehicles which cause horrible pollution.

To summarise, in this modern hectic world where traffic and its adverse effects are having a tremendous detrimental impact on our environment and ecosystem, a simple hike of petrol price is not an effective solution. The above mentioned measures along with planting tress in urban areas would be very beneficial to make our cities more clean and less affected by traffic congestion.
