Can someone evaluate this please

Post by jpborralho »

I am aiming to band 8 so, i really need if this essay deserves it or, if not, what should I improve.

"Lately, the dog meat consumption has become a popular debate due to the 'cultural clash' nature of
the subject. Without the proper cultural contextualization it goes into a subjective judgement
so, in this essay, we shall discuss both the counter and favor arguments regarding this practice.

Considered a delicacy in certain asian countries including South Korea and China, the dog meat consumption
is a famous tradition and is mainly used in a popular dish called "bosintang". The importance of this
tradition is such that in cities such as Yulin, festivals are held in comemoration during the summer months.

Chinese and korean people refuse to abandon their tradition and claim that they have the right to eat dogs if
they wish in the same way the westerners do with cows and pigs, arguing that dogs are no different from these
animals. In addition and a very important factor that must be taken in consideration, many people from those
asian countries trully believe that dog meat consumption have medicinal benefits and increases vigor, being
these the core reasons for this ancient tradition.

Traditionally in the west, dogs had a close relation with humans and were essentialy seen as pets, therefore
is compreensible that the dog eating practice may sound shocking and disturbing.
Besides this "western perspective" towards dog meat, there are some other important aspects that can act as
counter arguments. Dogs are usually kept in "dog farms" and live in extremely unhealthy conditions: fed with
rotting leftovers, packed in small open mesh cages and living on top of their own excrement. To worse things
more, it is a very common practice among "dog farm" owners to administer antibiotics indiscriminately, which
can turn into a serious public health problem.

To sumarize, there are arguments that support both perspectives.
Dog meat consumption is a personal option in some asian countries and it is very likely that will remain in
practice for the near future, still, dogs should be provided with their basic needs in terms of sanitation
and feeding. And of course, the slaughtering process must be much quicker."
