Advertisement plays a major role on TV in developed market economies. Despite the benefits of such information, many people are critical of the role of TV advertising.

Television advertisement has become quite familiar to TV viewers since TV was invented. Some people believe TV advertisements provide the audience with useful information about a variety of products, while others think the information’s quality is questionable. This essay will discuss both advantages and disadvantages of TV advertisements.
On the one hand, companies obviously want their products to be good in the eyes of potential customers, and those companies have right to decide their advertisement’s content. Therefore, the quality of advertised products is likely to be twisted in order to make TV viewers impressed with them. For instance, most laundry detergent advertisements usually emphasize on the strength of detergent but seldom mention the negative impacts on washers’ skin. In addition, advertisements often cause annoyance to TV viewers because they prolong and divide TV programs into shorter parts.
On the other hand, it is believed that TV advertisements bring to consumers necessary information about products including promotion and discount programs, selling locations and product’s functions. With the information, people can go shopping more efficiently. Moreover, thanks to TV advertisements, TV programs now become more affordable to all families than in the past because a large proportion of copyright and broadcasting fees are paid by companies for their advertisements on TV. For example, a newspaper on The New Yorker said that ninety percent of the copyright fees of movies broadcasted on HBO are paid by the advertising service of this channel.
In conclusion, despite the possibility of product’s quality being twisted and the annoyance to TV audiences, advertisements provide useful information about products and make TV programs more affordable to viewers. Therefore, it can be predicted that TV advertising will continue growing in the future.
