In many countries, children are given a lot of homework. Some people feel if homework is less than children can face less stress and can get more time to develop extra skills.
What is your opinion on this ?
In today’s competent world, children are often expected to do more in their classwork as well as homework. However, if the burden of homework is reduced, it can give some additional time to the kids to do extra activities. It is, therefore, argued that giving less homework is beneficial to the kids. This will be proven by looking at how the additional time offered by this study arrangement can be used to learn new things that can help children in long run and how this addresses the issue of increasing communication gap within the families.
Firstly, if there is less homework to do, children will get more time after school that they can use to learn some new things like learning a musical instrument or a second language or playing a sport. Take my cousin for example. He is born and brought up in USA and his school had no homework policy. This used to give him additional time which he used to learn Spanish which helped him a lot, especially when he moved to Europe for his higher studies. As can be seen from this, having less homework motivate kids to do something extra and to pursue a hobby. This clearly shows that having less homework to do is much more beneficial to the children.
Furthermore, when the biggest quest in the nuclear families nowadays is to find time for loved one, such a study arrangement gives more opportunities to the children to interact with their parents. Kids can spend more time with their parents naturally when they are no more required to lock themselves into their rooms to do the homework. The additional time available can be used to help Mom in the kitchen or Dad in the grocery shopping. Such behaviour can help kids develop qualities such as benevolence and kids will be more happy to interact with parents and help them in their chores.
To summarize, it is felt that doing less homework has many benefits to the children. It is, therefore, recommended that more and more schools should encourage such a study arrangement.
