News editors decide what to broadcast on television and what to print in newspapers. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we become used to bad news, and would it be better if more good news was reported?
It is true that in technology-driven world the role of news editors has grown up significantly than ever before. They are making decision of what to broadcast or print in order to attract many viewers and readers. There are several factors which affect this directly or indirectly and I believe that it would be more beneficial for us getting good news from television or newspapers rather than bad news.
On the one hand, it is sometimes argued that main factor that has a considerable impact on their reach of decision is becoming popular publisher. By showing more crime accidents on television they attract many viewers and benefit from this, because of peoples nature interest on violence, crime, quarrel and so on. Same occasions are taking place in newspapers. Furthermore, television and newspapers are being paid high amount of money by large and well-known companies in order to advertise their products via these tools of media. There is no doubt that this is in turn another impact on people in terms of making people believe that their products are needed.
There are several reasons why news editors should look out for what they release to society and should not ignore its harmful consequences. Bad news shown on television or in the major headlines of newspapers could have a negative impacts on people and hurt a feeling of love, respect for human beings. Having such a bad news will more likely cause a breeding of hostility and more violence, even though high rate of crime on society. They also attempt to deceive people living far from locations where real facts are being hidden. For example, in terms of conditions in the middle-east countries, people are being manipulated to believe that Muslims are terrorists and as if they are principal cause of violence, crime, killed babies and people, destruction of infrastructure, etc. However, it could be more fair to reach people unbiased news about what happing around the world.
In conclusion, it seems to me that the role of news editors in our modernized world is much more than expected and they should be careful about what they give us through news. People might be carried away when observing bad news and it is needed more to watch better news for our immature children.
