Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
What other measures do you think might be effective?

Nowadays, increase in traffic and pollution is a pressing problem for many countries. It is evident as many countries are taking measures to prevent increasing traffic and consequently pollution. It is disagreed that increasing the price of petrol can solve the accelerating traffic and pollution problems. This point of view will be argued on the basis of general public distressed and unlawful smuggling of fuel from neighboring countries.

Firstly, increasing the price of fuel will not be in the favor of the public who use public transport system. For example, mass transit systems, particularly buses and metros, are used by millions of people daily. Therefore, increasing the fuel price will impact a large group of people. Hence increasing fuel price is not a sound method to prevent traffic and pollution problem.

Secondly, increasing fuel price in one country opens the door for some unlawful activities such as smuggling of gasonline. For instance, gasoline price is less in Iran, comparing to gasoline prices in Pakistan. Due to this, criminals smuggle gasoline from Iran to Pakistan to earn huge profits. These illegal activities are due to the price difference between two different regions. Hence increasing price on fuel cannot be supported.

Instead of increasing the price other methods can be implemented to curb pollution and traffic problems. For one, the government can impose huge taxes on private cars. In this way few people will buy the car and this will reduce the ballooning traffic problem. Moreover, government can give benefits to electronic car users, such as tax cut on new electric cars. This will reduce the pollution problem.

In conclusion, due to increase in public distress and fear of smuggling, the suggestion for increasing fuel price cannot be supported.
