Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
What other measures do you think might be effective?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Answer:-

Recently, it has become a trend to own at least single vehicle. Due to this traffic and pollution problems are rising. It is argued that to increase the price of fuel i.e. petrol, diesel will help in solving the traffic and pollution problems. However, I refute it. This will be proven by analysing it below. Also there are few more ideas to reduce the problem.
Firstly, inflation rise will happen because of hike in petrol price.
For instance, in India, due to rise in the petrol price, cost of all the food items reached the sky in 2009. In this crisis idle class families suffered a lot. From this it can be concluded that, increasing the petrol price is not a good idea as it seems to be.
On the other hand, there are many other ways to decrease the traffic and pollution problem. For example, government should reduce the cost of travelling by public transportation. Measures should be taken to increase the public awareness like organising social awareness camps and publishing documentaries.
Furthermore, law and order can also help in reducing traffic problems. To illustrate, laws regarding taxes for more than 10 litres of consumption per week will automatically reduce both the problems.
After analysing the point of inflation and other crisis that can cause as a result of increase in the petrol price, it is clear that the idea is not that satisfying to reduce the traffic and pollution problems. Although increasing public awareness, fare reduction in public transport and law like tax can help the society to effectively deal with the traffic and pollution issues.
