The table below shows the proportion of different categories of families
living in poverty in Australia in 1999.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features,
and make comparisons where relevant.

The table shows the amount of people that lives in poverty distinct by family types in Australia in 1999.

As we can see, there is a grand total of 1,837,000 people living in poverty which represent 11% of all Australian population. Split in family types, it shows that aged single or couple and also couple with no children have one of the lowest rate of poverty, respectively 6%, 4% and 7%. In addition, the highest percentage of poverty concentrate in sole parents and single without children families, respectively 19% and 21%, having a percentage over the average.

Another point to be analysed are the couple with children families, although the 12% represents the higher number among all family types, the percentage remains in the average of the total. The reason it happens is because this is the most common family structure in Australia.

In conclusion the high poverty percentage in Australia concentrate in families with sole parents and single without children and the lowest percentage in the aged families.

In conclusion, the highest poverty rates in Australia are suffered by families with sole parents and singles without children while the lowest percentage is experienced in the aged families.
