In the last 20 years there have been significant developments in the field of information technology (IT), for example the World Wide Web and communication by email. However, future developments in IT are likely to have more negative effects than positive.

Our world altered considerably in the last 20 years; especially in the means of communication. IT developments such as World Wide Web and email have greatly enhanced our exchange in information and nowadays it is hard to imagine a world without these technologies. However, some people believe that further developments in IT may have more disadvantages than benefits. I tend to disagree with this idea for several reasons.
First of all, IT developments show a pattern of improving people’s lives. Many of today’s complicated processes such as navigating in the city or shopping have been simplified through the integration of information technology in everyday life. Just like 20 years ago World Wide Web and email, brought benefits to individuals by opening new avenues in communication, IT developments remain to make our lives easier and more comfortable.
Although, it is understandable why some people fear that new IT developments may bring negative effects. The integration of new IT technologies in more complicated tasks such as payments or control over important systems can be slightly dangerous. There have been many cases of credit card frauds, when malicious programmers took advantage of people’s bank accounts. Therefore, no one can be certain that new and ambitions projects, such as self steering cars are totally protected from hacking. However, as these malicious programmers evolve, so does the protection against them. Many of today’s leading IT developments are focused on improved defence against hackers. Together these developments should make our world a lot safer.
In conclusion, even though developments in IT require supervision in terms of safety, I believe that many of them will bring great advantages to people and therefore these benefits outweigh the possible disadvantages.
