People contend that what student should be allowed to study in the university. Some argue that students should be allowed to study the subjects that will be useful in future, such as information technology and science, whereas other believe that they should be allowed to choose the course that they are interested in. Although studying science related subject may increase the job opportunity, I believe that allowing students to study their choose of a subject could motivate them to perform better.
The main reason why people argue that student should be allowed to study subjects that related to technology is because of high employment opportunity. Having graduation in specific skill sets would increase the job prospects and help them to attain high paying jobs, which means they may have a better standard of living. Students who hold a degree in computer related subjects have high chances of getting a job in technology companies such as, Facebook and Google that is a reason many people argue that students should be allowed to study the subject which is in high demand. For instance, in India, students who graduate in engineering and technology degree has increased significantly after the emergence of outsourcing because of the job opportunities it creates.
Despite this, many people unable to find a job in an area which they graduated in because they lack a competitiveness, it may be due to reason that they have forced into the study the course which they have not interested in. Therefore many argue that students should be allowed to study subjects that they interested in. Allowing students to select the subject they are fascinated about could motivate them to perform well in the studies. When a course is suited to the passion of its participants, they are able to enjoy to the greater extent than if they were forced into the course. For instance, it is widely believed that reason for the higher number of innovation in developing country is students are allowing choose their own area of study.
To conclude, while forcing students into subjects that are in demand may result in better and more stable employment, whereas allowing students to choose the subject they are interested in would be more rewarding therefore I believe that student should be allowed to select their course.
