Language is a medium of communication for human beings. It is an undeniable fact that various languages definitely acts as a barrier in the era of rising globalization. The idea of a universal speech is really appealing due to its employment benefits on a global scale, although it could lead to loss of cultural heritage of a nation. The favorable and unfavorable ramifications of a global language will be discussed in this essay.
On one hand, if whole world communicates in a single language, then it will be tremendously beneficial to the employees as ample of job opportunities would be accessible worldwide. This will not only assist in gaining better work experience and jobs, but also benefit the employers as they could recruit talented people all across the globe. To illustrate, recently, many multinational firms in Germany and Japan has declared English as their corporate language. Previously, the companies were mainly dominated by their native language, hence it was extremely troublesome for employees from dissimilar nationalities to adjust and work. Furthermore, after implementation of this declaration there was seen an upsurge in the number of job applicants by about 25% either to work or gain experience. Therefore, it is clear that by communicating in a universal language could massively improve the recruitments for skilled professionals.
However, there are a few disadvantages of having a universal language. It is well known that language is a soul of a culture. Eradication of different languages would lead to the death of cultures associated with them that would lead to an enormous loss of a cultural heritage. For example, according to a recent survey of linguistics society, around 465 languages are lost in past 50 years thereby there is a massive loss of their customs, traditions and religious beliefs. Thus, the negative impact of cultural loss is noticeable with the loss of language.
To conclude, although elimination of cultures is one of the disadvantages of adopting to universal language but the benefit of better employment opportunities far outweigh it.
