21) Time (remember the instruction is ONE word only)
31) I'm sure the answer is 1.5 milion (in Twenty century). Today it has reduced to 300.000

Re: Reading and Listening questions recalled from 16.08.14
oh may be i m wrong on 31 then. but 21 is correct because they were discussing about headings and only 'times' in there doesnt make sense. also, i think for the questions from 21 to 26, the instructions were not like one word only + it was the only section where we required to answer in more than 1 word (i think itwas 3 words and/or number). questions 1 to 10 were 1 word. questions 11 to 20 were MCQs and 31 to 40 were again one word + MCQ. Anyway, even if i mark myself conservatively, i m getting 32 correct which is well below par for me. however, i need only 7 which requires 30 correct answers. i think i got them today. a win with a single or a sixer doesn't matter because win is a win afterall haha how did you go with R W and S?

Re: Reading and Listening questions recalled from 16.08.14
Congrats! I asked my friend who also joined the test this morning and he told me that your 21st question is right =D
I got 29 correct answers in Listening section. There are 6 other answers make me confused because I cannot remember what I chose. Wish me luck, my friend! ))
I did a good job on Reading. I cannot believe this because it seems that under exam condition I performed better (It took me 65 - 70 minutes to resolve 3 passages at home). There are only 14th question I could not find the answer, so I just made a guess in the last 5 minutes. I hope I can get at least 8.0 in reading
Writing, the skill that I feel very confident, wasn't good as I had expected before. I even don't have a moment to recheck my spelling I'm not sure whether I can achieve 7.0 or not
Speaking - Worried because the examiner repeat "Anything to add?" 2 times, although I gave at least 3 sentences in each questions. I don't understand why he did so! It seems that he was exhausted because I was one of his last candidiates today. Waiting for a 7, but 7.5 would be expected :-*
I also need 7.0 overall, and no section under 6.5. It's cruel! But if everything I estimated is right, then I accomplish my goal too.
Good bless IELTS, you and me

Re: Reading and Listening questions recalled from 16.08.14
Hi ieltstesttaker140816,
I wish you a good luck with the listening. With 29 correct answers, you will score 6.5 very easily but sometimes we correct ourselves too conservatively sometimes so hope for 30 correct answers as well which can get you to 7 in it. By looking at your IELTS band score requirement, I think you are chasing SA's state sponsorship. Do you?
I appeared for GT module and my Reading was a piece a cake. Finished answering 40 questions 20 minutes early. There was nothing challenging. So I expect 8.5 to 9 in Reading.
Writing was good as well. Expecting 7 in writing as the letter and essay satisfies band 7 descriptors. (I hope you know how they mark you for overall writing score out of the two tasks)
Concern has been a Speaking test. Infact, I take IELTS for Speaking test ONLY. This was my 6th appearance and I never get any less than 7.0 in L R W. However, I am always getting 6.5 in Speaking and this is the reason for retake after retake. I know I am very close but just not there yet. I also know where I am lacking. I am improving after doing 4 tests as in all those I didn't needed to score 7 in speaking so dint required 'special' attention. My earlier IELTS requirement was same like your current. But the sponsorship didn't worked out. So now i need to get 7 in each as mandatory requirement to get 10 points for residency.
My Speaking questions were asfollows-
Part 1- Do you work or are you a student?
Why did you choose this profession?
Are you more efficient in morning or in the afternoon? why?
Do you like music?
What type of music do you usually listen to?
Has this taste of music remained the same since you were a child?
what type of clothes do you like to wear?
Do you change the clothes when you get home from work?
Did you like wearing special clothes for occasions like birthdays when you were a child?
Do you think people spend too much money on clothes?
Part 2- Describe something that you forgot to do.
what was it?
where did that happen?
why did that happen?
explain how you felt about it later?
part 3 - memory /memory aids
Do you have a good memory?
What are the things that people usually forget?
What can help people to remember things?
Does having a good memory is important for certain professions like teachers, doctors?
By the way, my 2nd August test result was out on 15th August. I got L 8.5, R 7.5, W 7.0, S 6.5 O 7.5. I have decided to sit for a test on each date (GT) until I get 7.0 in Speaking. The race against the time has begun haha.
Will see on the 29th August if i did well for 7.0 in speaking otherwise I already booked in for the 6th Sept
Have a good weekend.
See ya.

ieltstaker140816 wrote:Congrats!

Re: Reading and Listening questions recalled from 16.08.14
Please let me know what were your speaking questions. Don't worry about what he said. If you think over it you will see that it can have 2 meanings. 1. he expect you to expand further as the topic was in Part 3 2. he wanted to go home early (as you are saying he looked exhausted) and he wanted you to finish early lol. It won't affect your score because by the end of part 2, they have pretty much a good idea about how many bands you are? Part 3 is there for clearing their doubts from the examiner's point of view. For ex, if they are unsure if you are 6.5 or 7 but they are very sure that you are definitely at least a 6, then part 3 guide them to assess them in giving the final score. It is an opportunity for the candidate as well. If you expand your answers well (meaning that keep asking yourself why? after every spoken sentence to expand and also offer alternative for the 'subject' in the question to end you answers) and use some uncommon vocabulary with some complex sentence structure (using 'which' 'and' 'that' and appropriate verb choices)then they will give you give you that extra 0.5.
They assess for those 4 marking criteria throughout the test and give you marks in each criteria (out of 9) and then totals them and then divide that total by 4 to calculate the final (average) score for the Speaking. Remember this- If the average score is not a whole number or a 0.5 number, for example, 5.5, the examiner goes down to the next whole number or 0.5 number.
Pronunciation 7
Grammar 7
Vocabulary 8
Fluency & Coherence 7
Average = 29/4 = 7.25
= Band 7.0
In nutshell, to score 7.0 in speaking, your total needs to be at least 28 if not 29.
Hope this helps.

Re: Reading and Listening questions recalled from 16.08.14
My speaking test 16/08/2014 (BC Vietnam)
Part 1:
- Do you work or study?
- Why did you choose that job?
- What is your favourite food?
- How often do you eat that kind of food?
- Do you know how to cook?
- Did you learn how to use map when you was a child?
- Do you prefer paper map or electronic map?
Part 2: Describe an item that you bought but rarely use. You need to answer:
- What it is?
- Where did you buy it?
- Why did you buy it?
And explained why you rarely use it.
Part 3:
- What are the most common things are often recycled in your country?
- Is it important to recycle?
- The pros and cons of shopping in big malls.
- Bad quality cloths with low price or good quality cloths, but expensive (silly question -_-)
He didn't have a chance to ask me why ) I think I did a good job with Part 1 + 2. Part 3 wasn't smooth as I had planned. I exanded my answer, but my examples were not clear enough. He also asked me "anything to add" 2 times in part 3. ((((
