IELTS Task 2: Robotic issues - please help :)

Post by ericphamhoang »

Some people think that robots are very important to human’s future development. Others think that they are dangerous and have negative effects on society. Discuss both opinions and give your personal view.

Robots are artificially intelligent electro-mechanical devices that developed by human beings to assist human in various aspects. While some people are of the opinion that the achievements of robot science can be harmful and bring detrimental effects on society, I personally believe that robots are vital for human’s development in the future.
On the one hand, the main problem of robots is that they make human become lazier. For example, cooking robots can relieve people from cooking, by providing healthy and nutritious meals in a short time without any efforts. However, by sitting and doing nothing, human can be vulnerable to many health issues including obesity and cardiovascular diseases. Another issue is by employing more robots in the industry, the more people can lose their jobs. For instance, service staffs can be replaced by self-service checkout machines in many supermarkets or factory robots can lead to fewer workers. Unemployment can introduce many issues like poverty or criminal, therefore, it can be harmful to the economy.
On the other hand, my view is that robots are essential for future development because of their usefulness. First of all, robots can help to do manual jobs quickly. To illustrate, in factory a robot can produce 250 aluminum cans per minute, while it takes 1 day for an artisan to make 5 cans. Secondly, robots can prevent human casualties from dangerous activities. An example for this is window cleaning robots can clean sky-scrapers, and in military, drones can be used to engage in critical missions. Finally, robots can create free time for people to spend on doing what they want. As a previous example, cooking robots is beneficial for busy employees who don’t have time to cook.
In conclusion, robots are able to assist people in many ways and they have advantages as well as disadvantages. However, I firmly believe that human beings are able to control and make robots more helpful to people.
