Wrt 2 Academic: people getting fat.

Post by Chitarra90 »

In some countries the average weigh of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing.

What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them?

It is in the common eye that more and more people are being overweight and conducting a sedentary lifestyle. This essay will discuss one of the main problem underneath the increasing weigh of the population and suggest a valuable solution, before coming to a reasoned conclusion.

The principal cause related to a fatter population is people’s busy lifestyle which sometimes forces part of the population to rely on pre-pared food. Research made by Cambridge University in 2001 revealed that about the 70% of ready meals are processed food. The term refers to food that has been altered from its original form for safety reason or convenience. In other words, there’s a concrete risk that people are consuming a huge quantity of food with added sugar, salt, and fat which in the long term could lead PEOPLE to be overweight, or in the worst cases, to suffer from diabetes or hearth disease.

A solution to the problem might be found on a public campaign made by the Government in order to increase people’s general awareness about conducting a healthier lifestyle. Thus might include enforcing laws which impose food producers to show on labels how many calories people need to burn in order to offset what they are going to eat, and to show if a particular food could be not safer if eaten in huge quantities. AN NHS campaign made in 2012 showed that giving transparency to the population on food calories and nutrients can help to reduce of about 50% risk of health disease, more people have started to practice sports and many firms are also taking in consideration to introduce sports facilities in work places.

To sum up, one of the main problem of the average growing body weight of people is the overconsumption of ready meals, which could be not safer as most believed. The Government should focus its political agenda also in increasing public health by giving consumers more access to information about food nutritional content.

Hello!

First main paragraph - 70% of which meals? I assure you that this not true for China or India! Why are people 'forced' to eat this food? (I don't!)

From the mention of the NHS, it is now clear you are talking about Britain, but you need to be clear about that from the start!

Overall, good, but make sure that you make yourself absolutely clear!

All the best,
David
