Listening - hyphenated words in the answer

Post by glassiko »

Hi all,

My question is about listening section:
is it a mistake to write a compound word with/without hyphen?

For example,
1) My answer is "ice-cream" instead of "ice cream".
2) I write "role play activities" instead of "role-play activities"
3) Or I put "web-site" instead of "website"

Thanks in advance.

Hi Yuri

I think the only thing they look for in the ielts listening test is whether you have correctly identified the answer from the audio clip and if the spelling is correct.

I feel that the hyphens do not matter much.

Hi All,
Hyphens are generally not an issue. 'Website' is written as one word, not hyphenated.
As drsid says, spelling is far more important.
All the best,

Thanks guys for your answers.
It sounds encouraging, because I usually make mistakes in hyphenated words.
