The graph illustrates the amount of money spent on books in 4 countries over a ten-year period.
Overall, people in all countries that are mentioned tended to buy more books from 1995 to 2005. It is clear that the German kept being in the first place in terms of investments on books over the period shown, followed by the French. Italy started at the third place in 1995, but was overcome by Austria in 2005.
In 1995, about 80 millions dollars were spent on books in Germany. The figures were 55 millions and 50 millions dollars for France and Italy respectively. The importance of books were not acknowledged by Austrian people at that time, since they invested only 30 millions for books.
Germany, Italy and Austria experienced slight fluctuations from 1997 to 2003. Money spent on books in Germany reached around 97 millions dollars in 2005. France gradually increased their figure to about 75 millions in the same year. The most significant jump of the period belonged to Austria, where their number jumped to 72 millions in 2005, overtaking Italy at just above 50 millions.
