Re: Mistake in Cambridge IELTS 7 Test 2 Reading task

The word in the question 'realistic' contradicts the information in the passage 'may be very hard for some countries', so industrial agriculture cannot be the answer and the more 'feasible' option will be intensive agriculture.

Writing Introductions for Task 2

I am confused while writing introductions as some sites say something and others something else. ielts-simon says to write 2 sentences to introduce while Ryan's e-book : a detailed introduction including Background-Detailed Background-Topic-Opinion/Outline. What would be an ideal way? Can somebody e...

Re: Can we use colon (:) or semicolon (;) in writing task 2

If you have the knowledge how to use it, why not? But be 100% sure. At th same time, you should avoid over-using it.

Re: Should I memorize common English names?

I guess that would be worthless. Memorizing a few common ones won't harm though. Paul is a pretty common name, similar is Matthew, Jennifer etc. but there are really uncommon ones such as Jose (pronounced as Haose) and Juan (Huan) which maybe useful to remember. But I guess that 95% chances are ther...

Re: A question from speaking part 3

You can ask the examiner to explain it to you if you're not sure. Communicating with the examiner about the question will never get you penalized if you are truly fluent. Well Charmy, thanks for the advice. I know that. But I just wanted to discuss what are your opinions about this question as many...

A question from speaking part 3

Hey everyone, I came across a question on some website about Photography and there a question was asked : When can a picture be worth a thousand words? Well I know what the phrase means and the explanation but the when part makes it absurd. What do you think? What according to you could be a better ...

Re: Listening test > Additional words/articles

Thanks, I perfectly understand the point now, especially for "much more". The question for "every second day" was exactly "In the second semester, how often did Kira work in a hospital". Every second day seems to be quite unpersonal and adapted here, I believe. Further...

Re: Listening test > Additional words/articles

Well every second day means every two days. So I guess both maybe correct. I don't exactly know the context of the question so I can't make out which one would be right. But here both are synonyms, if the question was According to speaker, ..... then every two days is right and second day is wrong b...

Useful Listening Strategy for Learners and Teachers

I attended a seminar conducted by the British Council wherein we teachers were given some tips by a seasoned BC examiner. One of the useful listening strategy that many of us fail to acknowledge (despite being a simple one and to some pretty common sense) is given in the following link by the BC its...

The questions requirement is to discuss about the negative side of consumerism which is "acquisition of goods and services in ever-greater amounts." So if people will buy goods in large amounts then it will result in depletion of resources which are used to make or package such goods which...

Re: Best way to approach Y/N/NG type of questions ?

I believe a proper understanding of the context is required to do this type of question. In T/F/NG you have to just depend on factual information available in the paragraph while in Y/N/NG you have to make conclusion after reading the text and confirming your conclusion is in agreement with the pass...

Re: IETLS General readng exam format

 Another case of nervousness. If you've done good number of practice tests and are confident about your performance in reading then definitely you'll get a higher score. Just try to stay calm in exam or you can provide yourself more of an exam like environment like working under stress. Studen...

Re: Listening test > Additional words/articles

Yes if you don't write the article and article was to be used, then your answer will be wrong. If the speaker says 'the' in listening and you are cent per cent sure you've heard it then it's right, otherwise not. 11 and eleven are considered same while checking so there'd be no issues with that. It'...

Re: Speaking topic

It is correct. You can speak on both a character from a comic book or a stand-up comedian. This question is a bit absurd, if you were in doubt then a simple question to the examiner about the context he/she was expecting would've been nice.

Re: Can I write in ALL CAPS on the IELTS Reading and Listeni

Actually if you write in CAPS it is better because the people who check your IELTS R/L answer sheet are not aware about the context of Reading/Listening Questions and are just made the keys for the same available to them. So if your handwriting is pretty bad or you attempt on writing in cursive and ...

Re: A book for IELTS recommended

Focus on IELTS by Sue O'Connell is one book that is really helpful. I found it really helpful as it is entirely made for the Academic Module. Some of the essays in this book are the one that really appeared in the exam, some of them in General Training. I was amazed because I never searched for lat...
