Re: PLease, check my essay for IELTS WT_1
Hi Murad, It would be useful to have the diagram, but I will assume that you have included all the stages of the process. In the introduction, delete the words 'generally' and 'obviously'. The 'dry method differs' mentioned in the introduction is unclear. Perhaps you mean 'drying method'? What does ...

Re: Please review my Task 2 essay and give possible band score
Hi Doni, Let's take a look paragraph by paragraph. Introduction - I think the 2 main problems here are unnatural phrasing (e.g. the phenomenon stated above) and grammar mistakes that create difficulties for the reader (e.g. the first sentence, which might be rephrased as "The modern world has w...

Re: need help in writing
Hi prinks! In my experience, this is usually a grammar issue - grammatical accuracy to be specific. At band 7 level, the examiner is looking for error-free sentences. Many candidates produce a good range of structures, but make too many mistakes to move to band 7. My suggestion is that you look at y...

Hi ifras,
Yes, that is true, but it shouldn't delay the result. It is conducted locally very soon after the test result is entered into the computer system.

Hi Jaggi,
In that case, work on the aforementioned points - development, vocabulary and grammar. The latter will probably prove the most difficult.

Hello asadurk,
Contact the test centre to see what they say. If you know anyone who took the test on the same day as you, find out if they have got their results.

Hi Jaggi, Task - You have clearly answered the question, but I think some points could be more developed, e.g. politeness. Ideas are good and you look at both sides of the argument. Coherence - Good with a nice range of connectives. Vocabulary - Quite good, but be careful to use the correct forms of...

Hi Everyone,
A friend of mine has posted a collection of IELTS materials (speaking and writing) on his Facebook page. Request to join the group - IELTS Mark Griffiths. The materials are 175 pages long, so make sure you have plenty of time!

Lingxia did an admirable job there! Fantastic!
The number of corrections tells us that this is not going to get a high score for grammar and vocabulary, but the essay does answer the question.

I suggest writing a 'fresh' version of your answer, so we can see the improvements. Also, what score are you aiming for?

Hi Gelever,
Yes, the examiner gives four scores (similar to the writing - you can see the boxes on the writing answer sheet). These are then averaged by a computer, but anyone with basic maths can figure it out, so the examiner knows exactly what score he/she is giving you.
All the best,
David

Re: Problem&Solution Essay. Most appropriate structure?
Hi Gelever, As Jill says, there are many approaches. Moving to Naveed's comment, the number of points can be important as candidates are required to develop ideas in order to get higher band scores. Hence, a few well-developed ideas score higher than numerous ideas that are simply introduced. I agre...

Re: many people prefer to watch foreign films rather than locally produced films.why could this be?
Hi jaggi! Since you mention The Times of India, I'm going to jump to the conclusion that you are from India. If so, you have missed a wonderful opportunity to compare Indian and American films (Bollywood versus Hollywood: The final showdown!). I think you focused too much on the technical side of Ho...

Re: Please review and rate my essay .
Hi DJvj! I haven't counted the words, but this looks quite short to me. Certainly, the ideas are not developed enough. There's some repetition (makes them self-dependent, making more independent, makes them more independent). Many phrases are unclear, e.g. help them in grooming, make self-sustainabl...

Re: Passive structure and use of personal pronouns in WT2
Hi Naveed! Good question! Yes, when giving your personal opinion, e.g. in the conclusion, you need to use 'I'. However, through the essay you can use both, with 'it is believed' or 'many people believe' for instance. The passive is not required, but is commonly used in academic writing. All the best...

Re: Question on writing evaluation
Hi! My apologies for the late reply! I think that you put forward some great ideas, but don't develop them enough. Sometimes poor grammar and phrasing prevent clear communication of ideas, e.g. "People with enough money leads to happiness". Also, be careful not to waste time on excess phra...

Re: Please review and give a possible band score
Hi! My apologies for the late reply! Your essay answers the question and provides a point of view. However, I found the second main paragraph (secondary school) a little confusing, e.g. "the process of learning foreign language stats". Some other phrasing in the essay is a little unusual, ...

Re: Need to Jump from band 7 to 8 in WRITING MODULE
Hi faty, The biggest obstacle is likely to be grammar, but if you have achieved 8 in speaking then you are probably already at or close to that level. For band 8 grammar must be close to perfect with a wide variety of structures. With vocabulary, you need to use a very wide range with plenty of idio...

Hi Gelever, Nice to hear from you again! I have a friend who actually wrote some essays as if they were bands 5-7. I will see what I can find! (It may take a while!) I think that the difference between 7.5 and 8 is much more challenging than from 6.5 to 7, particularly with regard to grammar. I can ...
